Ludwig Lifts Men's Soccer Over Lafayette in Overtime

Box Score

WASHINGTON ‑ Dale Ludwig scored the game-winning goal with 4:18 remaining in the first overtime to defeat Lafayette, 1-0, on Senior Day Saturday at Reeves Field.

American jumps up to 8-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the Patriot League. Lafayette drops to 5-3-4 and 2-1-1 in the league.

AU keeper Dylan Hobert recorded his fifth shutout of the season while Lafayette's Brian Ehrlich made eight saves.

The Eagles outshot the Leopards, 20-3, overall and had 12 in the second half. The lone attempt in the extra frame found the back of the net.

Jordan Manley was credited with the assist on Ludwig's game-winner when he directed the ball towards the back post.

Midway through the second half, Ludwig beat the keeper, but the goal was disallowed due to handball in the box. Moments later in the 73rd minute, Ludwig had another opportunity, but Ehrlich made a great save.

In the 85th minute, Joe Iraola placed a dipping shot that edged the top of the crossbar.

Prior to the start, AU honored its four graduating members in the Class of 2016 — Dylan Hobert, Jordan Manley, Devon Orben and Liam Robley

American will complete its non-conference schedule on Tuesday with a road match at No. 10 Virginia. The Cavaliers are the defending NCAA Champion.
