Box Score Bethlehem, Pa. – The No. 14 American University men's soccer team saw its six-game undefeated streak come to an end on Saturday night at Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks scored in the 88th minute for a 2-1 upset victory in the Eagles' Patriot League opener.
American held the edge in shots, shots on goal and corners, but a late shot by Lehigh that the deflected several times, found its way in for the game-winner.
The first two goals of the match both came on corner kicks, with Lehigh striking first.
The Mountain Hawks took a 1-0 lead into the break, but American quickly found the equalizer, scoring in the 50th minute.
Junior Liam Robley took the corner kick for AU and placed in the box for senior defender Christian Robbs, who headed it home first his first career goal with the Eagles.
The two teams appeared poised for overtime, but Brian Vail scored his second goal of the game with only 2:44 left on the clock, as a deflected shot found its way in off the extended hands of Dylan Hobert.
AU falls for the first time this month, but continues its goal-scored streak to seven games.
The Eagles continue Patriot League play and return to Reeves Field in their next match against Holy Cross on Oct. 4. It will be a truly special day with numerous alumni returning to campus to honor both the 10-year anniversary of the 2004 Patriot League Championship team as well as the memory of standout Shawn Kuykendall' 05.
