American University men's soccer lived up to its new top-25 ranking in its return to Reeves Field on Friday afternoon, scoring a season-high three goals in a 3-1 victory over Hartwick in the third annual Capitol Cup. The starting forward trio of Stephen Hauschild, Dale Ludwig and Joe Iraola all scored.

Playing their first game since knocking off then-No. 1 UCLA and winning New Mexico's Grange & Ashwill Memorial Tournament, as well as receiving a No. 19 national ranking, the Eagles took care of business, scoring three times in the first 50 minutes against the Hawks.

Iraola got the action started in the 22nd minute, stealing the ball in the Hartwick zone, dribbling up into the box, before blasting one past the keeper from 15 yards out.

American held Hartwick off the score sheet in the first half, keeping the Hawks without a shot on goal in the initial 45 minutes.

The Eagles started the second half strong scoring twice in just 60 seconds, starting in the 49th minute.

The second goal of the match was set up off a free kick by junior Liam Robley. Senior Christian Robbs tracked the ball and headed it towards the goal where Ludwig flew in to head it in to the back of the net.

Exactly one minute later, AU had possession again and senior Conor Osborne put a cross in the box for Hauschild who was in open position just two yards from the goal line.

Hartwick was able to get one back in the 54th minute as a failed clear on a corner kick led to a quick cross that was headed in by Kit Tregear.

That was all the Hawks would get however as goalkeeper Dylan Hobert made three saves in the match to pick up his fourth win.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they take on Milwaukee in the final match of the Capitol Cup.
