No. 19 Men's Soccer Hosts Hartwick & Milwaukee in Capitol Cup

The newly ranked No. 19 American University men's soccer team is in action this weekend at Reeves Field as they host the 2014 Capitol Cup. The Eagles take on Hartwick at 4 p.m. on Friday before facing Milwaukee on Sunday at 1 p.m.

After a victory over No. 1 UCLA last weekend, AU is ranked for the first time since 2010. Senior defender Jake Weinreb was selected as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and New Mexico Lobo Invitational MVP.

Sophomore forward Dale Ludwig, who scored the game-winner in OT versus the top-ranked Bruins earned PL Offensive POTW honors after being selected as the tournament's Offensive MVP.

After knocking off UCLA, AU went on to defeat UC Riverside on a second straight golden-goal victory to take home the tournament title.

American had outstanding defensive efforts at the Grange & Ashwill Memorial Tournament the Eagles gave up a lone goal in more than 200 minutes of action. The defensive showing included a shutout of UC Riverside in which the Highlanders had only one shot on goal. The defense also turned away six corners against UCLA and another eight vs. UCR.

Weinreb and Ludwig were joined by three other AU standouts on the Grange & Ashwill Memorial All-Tournament Team: Defensive MVP Christian RobbsStephen Hauschild and Conor Osborne.

Hartwick enters the matchup, searching for their first win of the season. The Hawks are 0-2-2 with ties at Robert Morris (1-1) and against Fairfield (0-0).

Offensive has been an issue for Hartwick, scoring only two goals, both off the foot of Dean Fowler. Goalkeeping has kept the Hawks from two extra losses as Tom Buckner boasts a 1.13 goals against average, playing every minute for Hartwick and making 12 saves.

Milwaukee comes to the East Coast with a record of 3-1-0, last defeating Gonzaga 2-1 at home. The Panthers are 1-0-0 on the road this season by shutting out Drake 2-0 on August 31.

Three different Panthers have two goals this year with Reid Stevenson and Petter Ingebrigtsen each tying for the team lead with five points by adding an assist.

Liam Anderson has started three games for Milwaukee, making 12 saves with a 1.00 goals against average and one shut out.
