Box Score WORCESTER, Mass.
– Junior Allison Cappellino and senior
Kelly McCaddin each recorded 12 kills to lead the
American University volleyball team to a 3-0 road victory over Holy
Cross.
The Eagles defeated the Crusaders,
25-14, 25-12, 25-14, to improve to 12-4 overall on the year and 3-0
in the Patriot League, while Holy Cross dropped to 4-12 overall and
3-3 in the league.
Cappellino, who also recorded 13
digs in the match, notched her seventh double-double of the year,
while McCaddin registered a season-high .733 hitting
percentage.
In all three sets, the Eagles put
together long scoring runs to retain control of the match. In the
opening set, AU never trailed, and finished on an 11-3 run to take
the 25-14 victory. McCaddin led the way with four kills, as three
other Eagles each added three kills.
American's attack percentage
was outstanding in the second set, with the team hitting .552 as a
group. Again, McCaddin was the leader, scoring six kills on six
attempts, while Cappellino added four kills. Meanwhile, Cappellino
was the top performer in the third set, registering five kills.
For the match, AU posted its
second-highest attack percentage of the season (.355), while
holding Holy Cross to just .046.
“Today's match was a
solid execution of containing a team's go-to plays and
players,” said American assistant coach Sarah Bernson.
“Although we didn't block as well as we'd like,
we held their hitting percentage down and forced adjustments in
their offense. A highlight was our dig and cover transition to
attack, which might have been the best for us this
season.”
American, which has won eight
straight matches, is back in action tomorrow, as it visits Army in
a 4:00 p.m. contest.
