Eagles Hold Black Knights Scoreless, Draw with Army

Box Score

WASHINGTON – The American University men's soccer team picked up a point in the Patriot League standings on Saturday afternoon at Reeves Field against Army. The Eagles held the Black Knights scoreless through 110 minutes for a 0-0 double overtime draw.

AU notched its fifth shutout of the year, holding the Military Academy to seven total shots in the match while junior Dylan Hobert made three saves to tally the clean sheet.

"We did not play our best game today, but still came away with the draw," said head coach Todd West. "We need to re-focus and work hard to make sure we come away with a victory, especially when an opportunity like that presents itself."

In the 71st minute a second yellow by an Army defender Trase Stapley, gave American the man-advantage. American outshot the Black Knights 22-7, doubling Army's output in extra time, but could not find the gamewinner.

One of AU's best chances came just after the ejection as sophomore Jake Garcia found himself on a breakaway. He put a well-placed strike on Army goalkeeper Winston Boldt but the USMA keeper made an impressive sprawling save, knocking away the shot with his feet to preserve the tie.

Garcia was strong for AU in 51 minutes off the bench, putting two shots on goal, but Boldt saved both as well as another strike from senior left back Conor Osborne to match Hobert's performance.

American returns to the pitch next week on Saturday with a Patriot League match at Lafayette.
