After a pair of Patriot League road wins to start the conference slate, men's basketball senior center Tony Wroblicky was honored as the league's Player of the Week as well as the AU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by GEICO.
Wroblicky helped American win its first two Patriot League games for the first time since 2009 with a monster effort in a win at Bucknell and another solid outing in a victory at Holy Cross last week. He opened league play by scoring a career-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting and notching 11 rebounds, six blocks and five assists to lead the way in a 67-57 win at Bucknell on Thursday, the first for the Eagles over the Bison since 2009.
The fourth-year big man followed it up with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals in a 69-54 win at Holy Cross on Sunday where he was forced to sit most of the first half with foul trouble. Wroblicky averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.5 blocks and 2.5 steals last week while making 14-of-22 shots (63.6%) from the field, matching his percentage for the season which stands second in the Patriot League. Wroblicky earns his first Patriot League Anaconda Player of the Week award.
After five-straight road games and over a month away from Bender Arena, the Eagles return home this coming Wednesday, January 8, hosting new conference member Loyola at 7:30 p.m.
