American University men's soccer fell in its home-opener on Friday night at Reeves Field, 1-0, as Binghamton scored midway through the first half. Despite the Eagles dominiating the second stanza, the Bearcats managed to keep AU off the scoreboard for the shutout victory.

AU (1-2-0) outshot Binghamton (1-2-0) 24-9 in the match including 12-2 in the second half, but the Bearcats equaled the Eagles in shots on goal, 5-5.

"Unfortunately, we came out flat in the first half. We showed well in a strong second, but could not find a late goal," said head coach Todd West. "We need to get refocused and work hard to get to level we need to play at for a full 90 minutes."

American came out strong, outshooting Binghamton 10-3 in the opening 20 minutes, but despite the shot discrepancy, it was the Bearcats who struck first.

Binghamton midfielder Tommy Moon, who led the Bearcats with three shots, all on goal, corralled a lose ball in the AU box and drove it home for the only goal of the game.

American controlled the second half, outshooting Binghamton, 12-2, and totaling seven corner kicks to just one for the Bearcats, but the Eagles could not find the equalizer.

Both junior midfielder Conor Osborne and rookie forward Michael Cherry led the Eagles with five shots, with senior co-captain Cristobal Soto with two shots on goal. Senior co-captain and goalkeeper Billy Knutsen made four saves.

AU will look to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., at Reeves Field when host the Denver Pioneers.
