Box Score The American University men's soccer team extended its undefeated streak to three games on Tuesday night in Farmville, Va., defeating the Longwood Lancers, 1-0.
The Eagles (2-2-2) got an early an early goal from senior forward Colin Seigfreid just 15 minutes into the match while senior goalie Billy Knutsen and the AU defense stood strong against the Lancer offense to earn the squads' second shutout of the season.
"It was a solid performance on the road for us tonight. Our defending was excellent and we could have easily had one or two more goals," said head coach Todd West. "I am quite pleased with an away victory and our progression as a team as we posted our second shutout in a row."
Knutsen made four saves in net for the second straight game and posted his second scoreless outing of the year. He and fellow co-captain Cristobal Soto made sure that back line was dominant for the Eagles, holding Longwood to only nine total shots in the contest.
Seigfreid's goal, his first of the season, was set up by rookie Dale Ludwig, who now leads the Eagles with seven points this year.
Seigfreid was active all game long, totaling three shots, all on goal for American. He was joined by freshman forward Joe Iraola who also put three shots, all on net, up for AU, while junior Conor Osborne put two of his three shots on goal for the Eagles.
American tallied 17 shots in the game. It's 11 shots on goal were two more than Longwood's total shots in the game. The Eagles also owned the advantage from the corners, with six corner kicks to the Lancers' two.
AU returns to Reeves Field this weekend, facing the Liberty Flames at 4 p.m., on Saturday, September 21.
