Box Score American University women's soccer traveled to Liberty on Sunday afternoon, and despite eight saves by goalkeeper Charlene Belanger, the Eagles fell, 2-0.
Liberty (2-1-0) came out strong offensively, tallying 10 shots in just the first 10 minutes. The Lady flames finished with 21 total shots, 10 on goal.
American (1-3) rebounded well defensively after Liberty's initial onslaught, holding them scoreless for 70 minutes after the first goal of the contest.
The game-winner came 10:28 into the match as Megan Warner took a pass from the left side of the box and fired it in for a 1-0 Liberty lead.
Belanger, who faced consistent pressure all afternoon made save after save, keeping the Eagles in the game until the final minutes.
Liberty tacked on an insurance goal with just nine minutes remaining as Crystal Elmers headed one in for her second score of the season.
Junior Lindsay Muri, sophomore Michaela Cowgill and rookie Sara Perlman all finished with one shot apiece.
The Eagles return to the pitch next Friday, September 6, when they finish a three-game road swing at La Salle. AU returns to Reeves field on Tuesday, September 10, hosting George Mason at 4 p.m.
