Junior Alexis Dobbs was named the
Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second
consecutive year, conference officials announced Tuesday. In
addition to being named the Scholar-Athlete, Dobbs was also
recognized on the Academic All-Patriot League Team along with
sophomore Jen Dumiak.
"For Lex to repeat as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year is a
fantastic accomplishment,” said Head Coach Matt Corkery. “She proves
herself as one of the top players in the league each time she takes
the floor, but this award shows everyone how fantastic she is in
the classroom.”
On the court, the Berea, Ohio native has started all 27 games
she has appeared in and was also recognized on the All-Patriot
League Second Team. Dobbs averaged 11.2 ppg and 3.5 rpg this season
for the Eagles. She leads the conference in steals with 2.0 spg and
is second with 3.8 apg. She is also ranked fifth in the conference
shooting 36.1 percent from beyond the arc, fourth averaging 1.9
three-pointers a game and second in assist/turnover ratio
(1.7).
In the classroom, Dobbs carries a 3.83 cumulative GPA as a
public health major. She is a two-time CoSIDA First Team Academic
All-District honoree, 2011 Academic All-Patriot League selection,
two-time Dean's List honoree and two-time Patriot League Academic
Honor Roll recipient.
Dobbs becomes the first American women's basketball
student-athlete to be named Scholar-Athlete of the Year in
back-to-back seasons since Liz Hayes was honored in 2006-07 and
2007-08.
Dumiak joins Dobbs on the Academic All-Patriot League Team after
starting all 26 games in which she appeared this year. The
Carlsbad, Calif. native has averaged a team-best 11.3 ppg along
with 3.0 rpg, 2.9 apg and 1.3 spg. Dumiak has shot 40.0 percent
from the field this season and 36.8 percent from beyond the arc,
good for third in the Patriot League.
The sophomore carries a 3.93 cumulative GPA as a mathematics and
economics double-major and was named to the CoSIDA Academic
All-District First Team earlier this year. She is a two-time
Dean's List honoree and was named to the Patriot League
Academic Honor Roll a year ago.
Dobbs and Dumiak mark American's first time with multiple
honorees on the Academic All-Patriot League Team since its
inception in 2011.
