American University sophomore men's basketball guard Jesse Reed was recognized as the AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics officials announced Monday.

Reed continues to improve offensively in his second season with AU, leading the Eagles to their largest margin of victory in four years with a 32-point win at Saint Francis this past Saturday. Reed tied career highs with nine made field goals, six rebounds and three steals and missed his personal best by one point, scoring 20 against the Red Flash. It was a homecoming for Reed as the Saltsburg, Pa., native, played in front of nearly 30 family and friends who traveled the hour-thirty minutes for  the game. In two games last week, Reed played all but 15 minutes and did not commit a turnover.

The sophomore swingman leads American in scoring with 13.5 ppg and has hit over 50-percent of his attempts from the field (31-of-59), while registering 3.5 rpg and 1.8 3pg.

After a four-game road trip, the Eagles return to Bender Arena this week with home games against Howard and Brown. AU hosts the Bison on Wednesday, December 4, at 7:30 p.m., before facing the Bears on Saturday, December 7, at 2 p.m., on Comcast-plus.
