Men's Soccer Victorious at Princeton, 2-0

Box Score

The American University men's soccer team played its final nonconference match of the season at Princeton on Tuesday night, topping the Tigers with goals in each half, while sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Hobert made seven saves for his second shutout of the year and first career win.

Senior Patrick Mehlert came through with the game-winner only 5:41 into the match, taking the feed from fellow fourth-year player Chris Kuramoto and rookie Jake Garcia, playing it in from 20 yards out.

AU tacked on an insurance goal in the 77th minute while the Eagle defense was on point in front of Hobert, holding Princeton to seven shots on goal and three corner kicks.

"Tonight was a great team victory," said head coach Todd West . "Dylan Hobert was superb in goal and the entire team put on a solid performance.  Now it is time to shift our focus to what begins our playoffs at Colgate, Saturday."

American used a physical style of play throughout the match, tallying 10 fouls in each half to only eight for Princeton in the entirety.

The Eagles' second goal of the match came on a set piece from Charlie Hunter, who played a solid strike up, that made it through the keeper's hands for his first goal and fourth point of the season.

AU now heads to Hamilton, N.Y., for its regular season finale against Patriot League foe, Colgate on Saturday, November 9 at 4 p.m.
