Men's Soccer Topped at Loyola, 3-1

Box Score

American University men's soccer traveled to Baltimore on Wednesday night to take on the Loyola Greyhounds in Patriot League action. The Eagles overcame a first-half deficit, tying up the match in the 52nd minute, but the lead did not last long as Loyola found the game-winner just over a minute later before an insurance goal late in the contest for a 3-1 win.

American (4-7-5, 2-3-2) faced a tough defensive effort from Loyola (6-7-2, 1-5-1) as the Greyhounds limited AU to only two shots on goal. Luckily, one of those found the back of the net in the second half, tying up the match momentarily before Loyola's Larry Ndjock scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick.

"Loyola really played like their season was on the line tonight," said head coach Todd West. "Unfortunately, we did not. Now we have to play for our season on Saturday."

Ndjock scored his ninth goal of the season in the first 25th minute to open the scoring in the match and Loyola held the advantage into the second stanza.

A little over six minutes into the second, junior Conor Osborne found Dale Ludwig off of a set piece and AU's rookie forward fired it home for his third goal of the season.

Senior keeper Billy Knutsen made two saves in the match while the defense in front of him made three more, but Ndjock and the Greyhounds kept the pressure on, affecting both side as evidenced by Knutsen's and Ndjock's yellow cards in the second.

The Eagles now return home to Reeves Field for the final time in the regular season, hosting Boston University on Saturday, November 2, at 1 p.m., on Senior Day for pivotal Patriot League showdown.
