Soto Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week; Honored as AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO

American University men's soccer senior Cristobal Soto has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday afternoon. Soto keyed the Eagles to its second-straight shutout in a double-overtime draw against defending Patriot League champion Lafayette last week. Soto was also named the AU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by GEICO.

Soto led the AU defense to an important league point against the reigning conference title-holders, Saturday, October 26, at Reeves Field. The center back anchored the line that allowed only 11 shots, four on goal, through 110 minutes. The defense also turned away eight corner kicks.

AU's senior co-captain has helped AU to six shutouts this season as the Eagles' defensive unit ranks third in the Patriot League with only 12 goals allowed.

Soto also ranks second on the squad with three goals scored, all coming on penalty kicks. He is a perfect 3-of-3 on P.K.'s this year, while ranking 12th in the Patriot League in scores.

AU hits the road in their next contest, traveling to Loyola for another Patriot League showdown on Wednesday, October 30, at 7 p.m., before hosting Boston U., this Saturday, November 2, on Senior Day.
