Women's Soccer Edged by Liberty in Home Opener; Watch Highlights

The American University women's soccer team fell to Liberty, 2-0, in Friday afternoon's home opener.

Neither team was able to capitalize on opportunities in the first half. The Eagles recorded five shots in the first with Liberty unable to convert on two corner kicks.

Liberty (3-2-0) ended the draw in the 69th minute when Lauren Stell kicked in the loose ball on the corner kick, with Brittany Aanderud registering the assist. The Lady Flames added another in the 84th minute as Megan Warner slipped it past Klare Lazor off a pass from Crystal Elmers.

American (1-3-1) held a 10-5 advantage in shots as Liberty goalkeeper Karen Blocker recorded five saves. Lazor played all 90 minutes in goal for American, registering one save.

The Eagles will return to Reeves Field this Sunday, September 2 when they host #13 Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
