The Patriot League's Council of Presidents has announced
that Loyola University (Md.) will join the Patriot League on July
1, 2013, in anticipation of the 2013-14 academic year. Loyola (Md.)
will be the 10th full-time member of the Patriot League. Prior to
the addition of Boston University announced this June, American
University was the last full member to join the Patriot League in
2001-02.
"We're excited about welcoming Loyola University to the Patriot
League," remarked Keith Gill, Director of AU Athletics
and Recreation. "Loyola's membership will provide another
significant regional opponent for our programs. We look forward to
playing both Loyola and BU next year.”
Loyola (Md.) will compete against American in the following
Patriot League sports: men's basketball, women's
basketball, men's cross country/track and field,
women's cross country/track and field, women's
lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's
swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving and
volleyball. Loyola (Md.) does not have a field hockey program and
the Patriot League does not sponsor wrestling.
The Greyhounds make the move to the Patriot League from the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, where they posted one of the
school's best seasons on the field last season with four
teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
