Seniors Michelle Montilio and Jasmine Mohandesi each registered second-half goals on Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph's as the American University women's soccer team played to a 2-2 double overtime draw.

St. Joseph's (0-0-1) tallied the lone first-half goal, which came in the 35th minute off the foot of Nicole King. Trailing 1-0 into the second half, Montilio leveled the match at one on a 59th minute strike. It came on a long shot from outside the goalbox following a loose ball scramble.

In the 75th minute, American (0-1-1) took its first lead of the young season as Mohandesi headed home a cross, which was setup on a flick by Montilio following a Nicole Paviglionite corner kick. The Eagles held the advantage for the next 10 minutes until the Hawks tied the match at two on a Morgan Duffy score in the 85th minute.

The match remained tied at two through 90 regulation minutes, forcing two 10-minute, sudden victory overtime periods. Each team recorded two shots in the first session and St. Joseph's tallied the only shot in the second overtime session, although neither team found the back of the net, resulting in the 2-2 draw.

"I thought we played very well in the first half and we showed guts in the fact that we came from behind to score two very nice goals in the second half," remarked Head Coach Dave Bucciero. "Unfortunately we allowed a late goal, which is something that we can learn from. Overall, I'm happy where we are through two games and we'll continue to improve from here."

St. Joseph's outshot the Eagles by an 18-12 margin, although each team registered seven shots on goal. The Hawks held a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Charlene Belanger got the nod in goal for the Eagles for the second straight game. She made five saves.

For Montilio, her three-point effort set a new career-high. It marked the sixth-career goal and fourth-career assist for the Preseason All-Patriot League Team honoree. Mohandesi, meanwhile, picked up her fifth-career goal, three of which came last season.

AU will remain on the road for its next two contests, beginning on Wednesday, August 22 at George Mason. The Eagles will then visit UMBC on Saturday, August 25 before hosting Liberty in the home opener on Friday, August 31.
