The Patriot League's Council of Presidents has announced
that Boston University will join the Patriot League on July 1, 2013
in anticipation for the 2013-14 academic year. BU will be the ninth
full-time member of the Patriot League and first new institution
since American joined the league in 2001-02.
"We're excited to welcome Boston University to the Patriot
League," remarked Keith Gill, Director of Athletics and
Recreation. "Boston University's academic and athletic profile make
them an ideal fit for our league. BU's institutional values
align nicely with the mission of the conference and its
member-institutions.”
Boston University will compete in the following Patriot League
sports against American: men's basketball, women's
basketball, men's cross country/track and field,
women's cross country/track and field, field hockey,
women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer,
men's swimming and diving, and women's swimming and
diving. BU does not field a volleyball program and the Patriot
League does not sponsor wrestling.
The Terriers make the move to the Patriot League from the
America East conference, where they won the conference's
Commissioner's Cup for each of the past seven years. During
that span, BU captured 40 America East Conference championships in
14 sports.
