Box Score The American University women's basketball team is No. 22 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, the website has announced. This marks the first time in the three-year existence of the rankings that the Eagles have climbed into the top-25.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
American received 111 points, which consists of votes from 31 Division I head coaches across the country that are part of the aforementioned conferences. AU is ahead of Wichita State, South Dakota State, and Stetson in the poll, which are No. 23, No. 24, and No. 25, respectively. Delaware received 28 of the 31 possible first-place votes and sits atop the poll with 770 points.
AU is currently 20-6 overall, including a perfect 12-0 in Patriot League play. The Eagles' 12 straight wins are a new program record and they have already clinched their third straight Patriot League regular season title and fourth in the last five years. With two more wins to close out the Patriot League schedule, AU will become the first ever Patriot League team to finish 14-0 in conference play.
The Eagles will conclude the regular season with road games at Bucknell and Lafayette before returning to Bender Arena for the Patriot League Quarterfinal game versus the No. 8 seed on Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
