Box Score The American University volleyball team registered its fourth straight Patriot League victory with a 3-0 sweep of Lehigh on Friday night.
Sara Rishell posted a team-high 12 kills, hitting .310, while Kristyna Lindovska hit a team-best .412 to lead the Eagles as they outhit Lehigh, .275 to .132, in the match. Kelly McCaddin also registered double-digit kills for American, notching 10 with a .400 hitting percentage. Kylann Scheidt paced the offense with 26 assists. Allison Cappellino and Megan Rosburg led the defense with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, with Jessica Warner adding nine.
The two teams battled back and forth to open the set before American (17-9, 8-3) took a 10-7 lead on an error by the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh cut it to two but the Eagles notched four straight points for the 17-11 advantage on an ace from Rosburg. A kill by Rishell put American up 22-16, forcing the Mountain Hawks to call a timeout. Lehigh made it a four-point match on a block by Ana Vrhel and Stephanie Slater but Rishell closed it out with the kill for a 25-20 win.
The second set featured six ties, with Lehigh (10-12, 6-5) taking a 4-1 lead. The Mountain Hawks continued to maintain their advantage before the Eagles were able to knot it up and take its first lead of the set, 18-17, on a kill by Morgan Hendrix. Lehigh tied it again at 18 before three consecutive tallies gave American the 21-18 advantage. The Eagles were able to hold off the Mountain Hawks' rally down the stretch for the 25-23 victory in set two.
American jumped out to a 12-3 lead early in the third set before four straight points from Lehigh cut the score to 15-8. The Eagles continued to roll and completed the sweep with a 25-15 win.
Kaylynn Genemaras led the Mountain Hawks with 11 kills, hitting .304, in the match as Dana Raber tallied a team-best 22 assists. Rachel Charles had a team-high eight digs for the Lehigh defense as Ana Vrhel added five blocks.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 3 as they look to secure a Patriot League Tournament bid when they take on Lafayette at 2 p.m. The match will be played at Lehigh.
