Volleyball Uses Balanced Effort to Sweep Bucknell in Regular Season Finale

The American University volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Bucknell on Saturday afternoon to lock-up the No. 2 seed in the 2012 Patriot League Tournament. The Eagles outhit Bucknell .271 to -.019 in the match, and held the Bison to a hitting percentage of under .100 in each set.

Kristyna Lindovska led American (20-9, 11-3) with nine kills, hitting .500 for the second consecutive night with three service aces. Kelly McCaddin and Sara Rishell each hit .429 on eight kills and two errors, while Juliana Crum also registered eight kills in the match. Allison Cappellino led the defensive effort with nine digs as Crum added eight. McCaddin notched a team-best seven blocks to lead American as it registered 13 total blocks, its second straight match tallying at least 10 in a game.

Bucknell (9-20, 3-11) cut it to a two-point match before the Eagles used a 9-0 run to take a 19-8 lead in the first set. American continued to roll for the 25-12 win and 1-0 match lead.

The Eagles jumped out to another early lead, posting seven consecutive points for the 12-4 advantage on a block from McCaddin. The Bison cut the score to nine, 16-7, on a kill from Kebah Edoho. The Bison posted three straight points to prevent set-point, before another block from McCaddin was able to put it away for the 25-12 victory.

The third set featured 11 ties with six lead changes as Bucknell attempted to come back and prevent the sweep. The Bison held a 20-19 lead after three consecutive tallies. American responded with six straight points to close out the match with a 25-20 win.

Edoho led Bucknell with five kills as Leylin Marroquin and Kat Tauscher posted 10 digs apiece.

With the win, American secured the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament next weekend at Colgate. The Eagles will face third-seeded Army on Friday, November 17 at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on Patriot League All*Access.
