The American University women's soccer team will make its first Patriot League Tournament appearance since 2009 when it takes on Colgate in a Semifinal match-up on Friday, November 2 at 3 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.
American (6-9-3, 4-2-1) earned the No. 3 seed in the Patriot Tournament after posting a 4-2-1 record in conference play. The Eagles set a program record with four consecutive shutouts in four straight Patriot League matches and closed out the year with a 2-2 double-overtime draw with the Raiders last Saturday. American faced a 2-0 deficit before back-to-back goals from Carleigh Morba and Lindsay Muri in the final 20 minutes knotted it up to force extra time.
The Eagles held a 16-13 advantage in shots in the game, with a 5-4 edge in shots on goal while Colgate had a 10-6 margin in corner kicks.
Jasmine Mohandesi has posted a career-best 11 points with five goals to lead the Eagles' offense this year. All-Patriot League Second Team selection Michelle Montilio has a team-best four assists, also registering three goals. Hannah Tatro and Kirsten Eriksen, All-Patriot League First Team and Second Team honorees, respectively, anchor the American defense this year. Charlene Belanger has notched 78 saves as the starting goalkeeper, posting a 1.32 goals against average.
Colgate (9-5-4, 4-1-2) is led by 2012 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year Jillian Kinter, who leads the conference with 13 goals and 35 points. She's also tied for first in the Patriot League with nine assists. Caroline Williams was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year after ranking second in the conference with 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists. Ashley Walsh has started all 18 matches in goal for the Raiders, registering a 1.62 goals against average with 90 saves.
The Eagles faced Colgate during the Patriot League Finals in 2009, with the Raiders notching a 1-0 victory in double-overtime. American is 4-8-2 all-time against Colgate. Their last win in the series came during the 2011 season, with a 1-0 result on a tally from Montilio.
Top-seeded Navy (18-1-1, 6-0-1) will battle No. 4 Lehigh (5-12-0, 3-4-0) in Friday's second semifinal, which will kickoff at 7 p.m. The Eagles fell to Navy, 1-0, and defeated Lehigh, 1-0, during the regular season.
The winners of Friday's semifinal matches will meet on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the championship game. American's only Patriot League title came in 2002.
