Box Score Juliana Crum registered her second straight double-double to lead the American University volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Army on Saturday afternoon.
Crum tallied a team-high 11 kills with 13 digs while Sara Rishell added 10 kills. Allison Cappellino led the defensive effort with 21 digs as Jessica Warner tallied 16. Kelly McCaddin recorded 20 assists in the match and Morgan Hendrix led the team with four blocks.
The match was tied four times before American (15-8, 6-3) posted four consecutive points to take a 11-7 lead and forcing the Black Knights to call a timeout. Army came back within two, but American responded with a 4-1 run for the 16-11 advantage. A kill from Ariana Mankus cut the Eagles' lead to 20-16 as the team was able to tally four consecutive points to make it a one-point game, 24-23. Rishell was able to put it away with a kill to give American the 1-0 match lead.
Army (15-7, 7-2) held off the Eagles' attack early in the second set before American was able to use a 10-1 run to take a 19-9 lead. The Eagles continued to roll, preventing the Black Knights from cutting its 10-point advantage and winning the second set, 25-12.
The third match featured six ties and only one lead change after Army took a 6-1 lead to open the set. The Eagles posted five consecutive points for a 18-13 advantage on an ace from Sarah Katz. Three straight tallies by the Black Knights cut American's lead to 23-18 before Hendrix gave American the 25-19 victory in the third set to complete the sweep.
Mary Vaccaro recorded a double-double for Army with 21 assists and 12 digs while Margaux Jarka and Mankus each had a team-high nine kills. American outhit the Black Knights .161 to .037 in the match.
The Eagles return to Bender Arena for its final non-conference match of the season against Maryland on Tuesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
