Box Score The American University volleyball team registered its third straight victory on Friday night with a 3-1 win over Bucknell.
The first set was tied seven times before American (12-7, 4-2) tallied three consecutive points for an 11-8 lead. Bucknell knotted the match five more times before the Eagles took a 24-21 lead on a kill from Sara Rishell. The Bison posted back-to-back points before a Rebecca Heath kill gave American the 25-23 victory.
Bucknell (6-15, 0-6) recorded six straight points early to take a 12-6 advantage. The Bison jumped out to a 10-point lead, 18-8, before the Eagles responded with five consecutive points to cut it to 18-13. But Bucknell was able to tie the match with seven unanswered points for the 25-13 win.
The third set featured 15 ties, with neither team able to take more than a five-point lead. After the set was tied at 17, the Eagles registered three straight tallies for a 20-17 lead. Bucknell took a 26-25 advantage but Rishell notched a kill to tie it. The Bison took a 28-27 lead before American responded with three consecutive points for the 30-28 win to take a 2-1 match advantage.
American took a 4-1 lead early in the fourth set before the Bison came back within one. An attack error from Claire Healy gave American a five-point lead. Bucknell tied it at 19 and added three consecutive scores for a 22-19 advantage. The Eagles came back to tie the set and Bree Scarbrough was able to put it away with a block on Meghan Wentzel for the 29-27 victory and 3-1 match victory.
Morgan Hendrix and Kristyna Lindovska led American with 12 kills apiece, with Hendrix hitting a team-best .579. Teodora Peric paced the offense with a career-best 47 assists and Heath led the defensive effort with a season-high 19 digs.
Morgan Mientus led Bucknell with a double-double, notching 13 kills and 15 digs. The Bison outhit American 0.195 to 0.179 in the match.
The Eagles will return tomorrow, October 13 when they travel to Colgate to take on the Raiders at 3 p.m.
