National Girls & Women in Sports Day with Free Postgame Clinic Set for February 4

On Saturday, February 4, the American University Department of Athletics and Recreation is proud to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day during the women's basketball game versus Colgate. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Following the game, each of American's seven varsity women's teams -- women's basketball, women's cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's track and field, and volleyball -- along with the cheer and dance squads will lead skills clinics and sign autographs for kids of all ages in attendance on the floor of Bender Arena. The clinic is free for all and children are asked to wear athletic shoes for the clinic. Youth taking part in the postgame clinic will receive a free participant prize bag.

Over 1,000 fans have attended each of the last three National Girls and Women in Sports Day games, including a Bender Arena women's basketball record crowd of 1,291 fans in the win over Colgate on February 13, 2010. 

The Eagles are currently 13-6 this season and are a perfect 5-0 in Patriot League play. AU has won two straight Patriot League regular season titles and have recorded 20 wins in each of those seasons.
