American (3-3) began its road swing at the Cornell Invitational this past weekend. The Eagles defeated both Cornell and Niagara 3-1 but fell to UTEP in four sets. Sara Rishell, the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week, and Juliana Crum were named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 3.67 kps and 3.00 kps, respectively.
Rishell boasts a team-best 3.61 kps and 1.00 bps, and has hit .361 through the team's first six matches. Crum, meanwhile, stands at 3.17 kps with 2.87 dps while Morgan Hendrix has added 3.74 kps with a .322 hitting percentage. Monika Smidova and Alexandra Hammer have split the setting duties, averaging 5.83 aps and 5.22 aps, respectively.
Coppin State will enter play Wednesday with a 2-5 record after going 1-2 at the Battle of Baltimore. Ariel Richards leads the Eagles' attack with 2.67 kps and has also added 1.75 dps. Salena Weekly has averaged 1.83 kps with 1.00 bps and a .282 hitting percentage. Kristine Bindule is the team's primary setter and has dished out 6.73 aps.
American and Coppin State squared off last season in Bender Arena, with American earning a 3-0 win. The victory kept the Eagles perfect at 14-0 all-time against Coppin State.
