The American University volleyball team climbed back to .500 on the season with a 3-2 victory over Morgan State Tuesday evening in Bender Arena. The set scores were 17-25, 25-12, 25-20, 26-28, and 15-7.
American (9-9), winners of four in a row over a seven-day span, were led by Juliana Crum and Rebecca Heath, who both recorded double-doubles on the evening. Crum registered 18 kills and 11 digs while hitting .342 while Heath tallied 18 kills, a .375 hitting percentage and 13 digs. Sara Rishell also chipped in 14 kills at a .444 hitting clip while Megan Rosburg added 12 digs. Monika Smidova, meanwhile, dished out 47 assists and registered nine digs.
Morgan State (3-14) took the opening set on the strength of a .394 team hitting percentage. The Eagles responded with the second and third sets, which included a .667 hitting mark in the second set. The Bears, however, fought back to win the fourth stanza before American took control in the fifth set with a .467 hitting percentage to earn the victory.
The Eagles will return to Patriot League play this weekend with a pair of road matches. AU will visit Army on Friday, September 30 at 7 p.m. before taking on Holy Cross on Saturday, October 1 at 2 p.m.
