Box Score Samantha Trotta registered her first goal of the season to give the American University women's soccer team a lead, but Robert Morris rallied with two second-half goals to earn the 2-1 victory Friday afternoon at Reeves Field.
Trotta's goal for American (2-3) came in the seventh minute of play as she received a pass from Jenna Stasiewicz and slid her short range shot past RMU goalkeeper Peyton Burns. That proved to be the only shot on goal recorded in a defensively-dominated first half of play and the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Robert Morris (4-2), however, came out firing on the offensive end in the second half and scored its two goals within a three minute stretch to take the lead. The tying score came off a corner kick when Ayana Davis headed Jess Sharik's feed into the back of the net. In the 57th minute, Brianna Bell knocked home what proved to be the game-winner on a high shot from 20 yards out that just got over the outstretched arms of AU goalkeeper Klare Lazor.
"I think we're a talented team but right now we're not doing the little things well, which is not leading to results," remarked Head Coach Dave Bucciero. "Our effort wasn't what it needed to be at the start of the second half and we paid for it."
AU outshot Robert Morris by a 15-11 margin, although the Colonials held the slight advantage at 5-4 in shots on goal. Jasmine Mohandesi and Samantha Trotta registered three shots apiece for American while Katarina Kingston had two.
The Eagles will return to Reeves on Sunday, September 4 when they host Big Ten foe Iowa. Match time is scheduled for 12 p.m., and it will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
