The American University men's soccer team hosted 10th-ranked Central Florida on Sunday afternoon at Reeves Field and the visiting Knights came away with a 2-0 victory. The win extends UCF's unbeaten streak to seven matches to open up the 2011 campaign.

The difference in the match proved to be two key offensive plays that led to UCF's goals, one in each half. Central Florida (6-0-1) got on the board in the 26th minute when Nik Robson knocked home a free kick from 25 yards out as AU goalkeeper Matt Makowski was unable to handle the bouncing ball to his right. And then in the 73rd minute, UCF's Malcolm Reed connected on a shot that came off a long throw-in from deep in the offensive end.

American (1-6-1) had its chances throughout the match, the best of which came in the 41st minute when Seth Goldman slid an off-balanced shot just wide right. Marco Dej also had two free kick opportunities from just outside the goal box, but both shots ended up slightly above the crossbar.

UCF held a slight 13-11 advantage in shots while both sides earned three corner kicks. Alassane Kane led the Eagles with three shots while Tyler Collins and Dej each recorded two.

This marked AU's final tuneup before conference play begins as the Eagles kick off against defending Patriot League regular season Colgate this Saturday, September 24 at 12 p.m. This marks AU men's soccer's annual Phil Reeves game, which will feature a free pregame BBQ for AU students. The match will also be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
