Men's Soccer Suffers Overtime Loss at Syracuse

Box Score

Jack Scott tallied his first goal of the season to even the match late, but the American University men's soccer team allowed an overtime score and fell 2-1 at Syracuse Sunday afternoon.

Nick Roydhouse gave Syracuse (2-2-0) the win with his game-winner in the 94th minute of play. It came off a free kick from outside the goalbox as AU fell for its second straight match in extra time following Friday's 2OT defeat to Liberty.

The Orange took a quick 1-0 lead in the match on Louis Clark's sixth minute goal, forcing American (1-4-1) to play from behind the majority of the match. With less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, Scott gave the Eagles the equalizer with his seven-career goal and sent the match to overtime.

In the match, Syracuse outshot AU by a 23-8 margin, although the Orange only held a slight 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Scott and Colin Seigfreid led American with two shots apiece.

AU will be back in action this weekend for a pair of non-conference home matches. The Eagles will first host Cal State Fullerton on Friday, September 16 at 1 p.m. before welcoming Central Florida to Reeves Field on Sunday, September 18 at 4 p.m. Both matches will be available live on Eagles Vision TV.
