Box Score Jill Dellipriscoli registered a 73rd minute goal and that proved to be the difference in Vermont's 1-0 victory over the American University women's soccer team Monday afternoon in Burlington, Vt.
Dellipriscoli connected for Vermont (1-1-1) on a header off a corner kick from Megan Rozumalski. After being held without a corner kick in the first half, the Catamounts tallied five corners over the final 45 minutes, which sparked the game-winner.
Vermont held a 10-7 advantage in shots over American (2-2-0) with the Eagles' lone shot on goal coming off the foot of Samantha Trotta.
Arianna Efstathiou made her first appearance in goal this season for AU, and played all 90 minutes. She recorded four saves while allowing the lone Vermont goal.
The Eagles have now split their opening four matches of the 2011 season, dropping to 2-1 against opponents from the America East Conference. AU was looking to improve to 3-0 versus America East foes following its victories over UMBC and New Hampshire earlier this season.
This match was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was postponed until Monday due to the effects of Hurricane Irene. Following their extended stay in Vermont, the Eagles will return to Washington to play a pair of home contests this weekend. AU will host Robert Morris on Friday, September 2 at 4 p.m. before welcoming Iowa to Reeves Field on Sunday, September 4 at 12 p.m. Both matches can be watched live on Eagles Vision TV, part of AUeagles.com.
