West Honored as Coach of the Year; Four Named All-Patriot League First Team

American University Head Men's Soccer Coach Todd West has been honored as the Patriot League Coach of the Year, conference officials announced Tuesday. Additionally, four members of the American University men's soccer team -- forward Alassane Kane, midfielder Ryan Morales, defender Adem Gokturk, and defender Cristobal Soto -- have been selected to the All-Patriot League First Team.

West garners his third-career Coach of the Year honor in his 12th season at the helm at American. He also earned the award in 2004 and 2008. West led the Eagles to their fourth Patriot League regular season title this season since joining the conference in 2001. With AU's 5-2-0 conference record this season, West has now accumulated a 50-25-10 mark in Patriot League play during his tenure.

Kane, a junior from Macon, Ga., earns his second straight All-Patriot League honor following Second Team recognition a season ago. The forward led AU with 15 points this season on six goals and three assists, which includes three game-winners. A 2010 NSCAA All-Region pick, Kane has now tallied 13 career goals in 36 games at American.

Morales records his first-career All-Patriot League honor after starting 17 games this season at midfield. The Dallas, Texas, native dished out three assists this year, including one in AU's 1-1 draw against nationally-ranked Ohio State. The junior has made 51 career appearances for the Eagles with 37 starts.

Gokturk, a junior from Annandale, Va., started all 19 matches this season anchoring AU's defensive unit en route to First Team honors. In addition to his strong play on the defensive end of the field throughout the season, Gokturk registered the game-winning goal along with an assist in AU's conference win over Army. As a result, he was named the Patriot League Player of the Week following that performance. Gokturk has registered 33 career appearances at AU, including 30 starts.

Soto is also a First Team honoree after playing a key role on the defensive side of the ball for the Eagles. The sophomore who hails from Santiago, Chile started 17 games this season and made 18 overall appearances. Soto registered an assist this season in American's conference win at Bucknell. In his two years at AU, Soto has made 35 starts and 37 overall appearances.

AU's four First Team honorees are tied for the second-most in program history since joining the Patriot League in 2001. In AU's inaugural Patriot League season of 2001, the Eagles earned five First Team honorees (Adam Rosen, Kris Kuykendall, Kris Bertsch, Bobby Brennan, and Larry McDonald). The Eagles also had four First Team selections in 2004 (Sal Caccavale, Shawn Kuykendall, Charlie Koniver, and Thomas Myers).
