The American University volleyball team defeated Army, 3-1, and are now one win away from clinching the Patiot League regular season championship.

Morgan Hendrix hit a team-best .643 in the match, recording nine kills and zero errors, as Juliana Crum and Rebecca Heath each contributed double-doubles for the Eagles. Crum had 13 kills and 15 digs, hitting .267. Heath added 11 kills and 12 digs, hitting .276 for the match. Sara Rishell led the Eagles with 15 kills and seven blocks, while hitting .250. Alexandra Hammer and Monika Smidova led the team with 23 and 21 assists, respectively.

The Eagles (19-10, 11-1 PL) hit .294 as a team, while holding Army (20-7, 10-2 PL) to a team hitting percentage of .083. American took the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-20, and held Army to a -.024 hitting percentage in the first set.

Army was able to come back and win the third set, 25-23, before the Eagles were able to put it away with a final set score of 25-18. The win is the 14th victory for American in 15 matches, and snapped an Army eight-game winning streak.

American needs to win one of its matches next weekend to secure the Patriot League regular season championship and to earn the right to host the Patriot League tournament November 19 and 20.

The Eagles will host two home matches next weekend, first taking on Lehigh on Friday at 7 p.m., who secured its own spot in the Patriot League tournament this weekend, and Lafayette on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. Both matches will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
