Box Score The American University volleyball team will host two conference matches this weekend, as they take on Holy Cross on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m. before facing Army in a key match-up for top of the Patriot League standings on Saturday, November 5 at 4 p.m.
American (17-10, 9-1 PL) enters the weekend after winning its 12th match in its last 13 contests, defeating Navy in three sets, 25-11, 25-18 and 25-15, last Friday night. The Eagles held Navy to a -.051 team hitting percentage, while hitting .280 as a team. Rebecca Heath led the attack with 11 kills, one error and a .500 hitting percentage and Sara Rishell hit a team-best .571 with nine kills and one error. Juliana Crum led the Eagles defensively with 15 digs, and also recorded five aces.
The Eagles secured a berth in the Patriot League tournament with the win, and are tied atop the standings with Army. Colgate and Lehigh are tied for third at 7-3 while Bucknell and Holy Cross are in fifth at 3-7. Lafayette and Navy round out the standings at 1-9.
Holy Cross (7-20, 3-7 PL) enters Friday on a two-match losing streak following defeats to Army and New Hampshire. American defeated Holy Cross in the two teams' first match-up this season, a 3-1 victory on October 1. The Eagles took the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-23. Holy Cross was able to take the third, 25-27, before American was able to win the match 25-17 in the fourth set.
Army (19-6, 9-1 PL) has won seven straight coming into Saturday's contest, and will first face Navy on Friday night in Annapolis. In their previous match, it took five sets for the Eagles to hand Army their first conference loss of the season. The Black Knights took a 2-1 lead into the fourth set, but American was able to sweep the final two, 27-25 and 15-11.
