Defender Adem Gokturk recorded his first-career goal and also added an assist as the American University men's soccer team defeated Army, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Reeves Field. The Eagles improve their Patriot League record to a perfect 3-0 and remain alone in first place in the conference.

After a scoreless first 72 minutes, American (5-7-1, 3-0-0 PL) found its stride offensively with three goals over the final 18 minutes to earn the win. The Eagles found their first goal when Gokturk pushed up on a corner kick and headed Colin Seigfreid's feed into the back of the net. Tyler Collins then gave AU a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute when he floated a 20-yard chip shot over Army goalkeeper John Marinelli's head. Gokturk picked up the assist on the play as Collins registered his fourth score of the season.

American added its third goal in the 86th minute when Alassane Kane drew a foul in the goalbox and knocked home the subsequent penalty kick. The score was Kane's team-leading fifth of the season.

The goalkeeping duo of Matt Makowski and Billy Knutsen combined to record the shutout. Makowski registered two saves in the first half and Knutsen made three stops over the final 45 minutes.

The Eagles held an 11-9 advantage in shots over Army (5-7-0, 1-2-0 PL) with each side registering five shots on goal.

American is now 3-0 in conference play for the third-consecutive season. The Eagles went on to reach the four-team Patriot League Tournament in both previous campaigns, reaching the championship game both years.

The Eagles will next travel to Birmingham, Ala., this Wednesday, October 12 for a non-conference matchup at UAB. American will then return home to face Lafayette next Saturday, October 15 for a Patriot League contest. The match against the Leopards will be carried live on Eagles Vision TV.
