Men's Soccer's Winning Streak Snapped at #13 Georgetown

Box Score

The American University men's soccer team's three-match winning streak ended Tuesday night with a 2-1 defeat at No. 13 Georgetown.

Georgetown (7-1-3) took a 1-0 lead at the 17-minute mark of the first half when Ben Slingerland converted a header off a corner kick. American (4-7-1) wasted little time in finding the equalizer as Tyler Collins knocked home his third goal of the season 30 seconds later. Collins' score came on a breakaway down the left side of the field as he beat the Georgetown defense and tied the match at one.

In the 44th minute, Steve Neumann gave the Hoyas a 2-1 lead with a goal off a set piece. The Eagles outshot Georgetown by an 8-5 margin in the second half, but were unable to find the game-tying goal as Georgetown held on for the 2-1 non-conference victory.

Georgetown held a slight advantage in the match in shots at 15-14, although the Eagles recorded nine shots on goal compared to only six for the Hoyas. Alassane Kane led the AU attack with five shots and Collins had three.

The Eagles will put their 2-0 Patriot League record on the line this Saturday, October 8 when they host Army. Game time from Reeves Field is set for 1 p.m. and all the action will be carried live on Eagles Vision TV.
