Box Score

The American University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 11 games -- tying a program-record set in the 2007-08 season -- with a 66-59 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Bender Arena.

Alexis Dobbs led American (13-4, 3-0 Patriot League) with a career-high 18 points while chipping in five assists, a pair of steals and zero turnovers. Liz Leer and Lisa Strack also scored in double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively, with Strack also tallying a career-high five steals. Sami Kozlowski led Colgate (6-11, 1-2 PL) with 18 points.

"I thought we put really good stretches together today," Head Coach Matt Corkery said following the game. "Our players are believing in each other and believing in our system."

American got off to a fast start, opening up the game on a 20-4 run. Dobbs kicked off the run with a three less than 30 seconds into the game and notched eight of the Eagles' first 11 points. Leer also had a pair of three-point plays on the run during which American held the Colgate to only one field goal.

The Raiders ended ended scoring drought with a Kozlowski three and started a hot streak of their own. Colgate outscored American 14-6 over the next seven minutes and trimmed the deficit to single-digits, 26-18, at the five-minute mark. Three points apiece by Leer and Stephanie Anya kept the Eagles ahead, but Colgate converted a buzzer-beating layup to close the gap and make it 34-26 at the end of the first half.

Dobbs and Leer led all scorers at the half with 10 and nine points, respectively, as the Eagles shot 44.8 percent from the floor. Jhazmine Lynch had eight first-half points for the Raiders.

Despite a pair of Kozlowski threes in the opening minute of the second half, American maintained a 38-32 lead as Ebony Edwards navigated the key for a layup. The two teams exchanged baskets until the 17-minute mark when the Eagles started a 13-2 run to take a 51-36 lead with 12:19 to play. A Kendra Brim layup ended the American spurt and Colgate remained within striking distance throughout the majority of the second half, although the Eagles were never really threatened down the stretch. AU maintained a margin between seven and 12 for the entire final 10 minutes and settled for the 66-59 victory.

AU shot 44.9 percent from the floor in the game, and was 17-of-21 from the foul line (81 percent). The Eagles registered a season-high 14 steals, including the aforementioned five from Strack.

The win marks American's 13th consecutive victory in Bender Arena and 21st straight when it scores 60 points or more. The Eagles' last loss came on November 27 at Texas Tech, and American has held its opponents to less than 60 points in every game since.

Next up for the Eagles is a road test at Army on Wednesday, January 19 at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are currently 3-0 in Patriot League play this season.
