Box Score The American University volleyball team will travel across town
to take on Howard on Wednesday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m.
The Eagles (7-2) are coming off a dominant victory against Siena
on Saturday. American hit .326 against the Saints and registered a
season-high 13 aces. Bianca Richardson led the
team with nine kills as five different Eagles notched four kills or
more. American was also strong defensively, holding Siena to a
-.051 hitting percentage while forcing more Saint errors (21) than
kills (17).
American is led by senior Magdalena Tekiel who
ranks first in the Patriot League in hitting percentage (.387),
kills (4.32 kps) and aces (0.45 aps). Angelina Waterman has added 3.68 kps while Deborah Frantz has recorded a team-high 4.04 dps. Katerina Cinkova and Krysta Cicala are currently
tops in the Patriot League in blocks (1.27 bps) and assists (11.09
aps), respectively.
The Eagles' 7-2 record marks the team's best start
to a season since 2001, when they finished the year with a 26-4
mark and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. American currently
leads the Patriot League in hitting percentage, opponent hitting
percentage, assists, kills and service aces.
Howard (1-7) will enter play on Wednesday having lost a pair of
matches to Towson and UMBC on Friday. The Bison's lone win
came against Lafayette on September 1, 3-1, as Tosin Elebute scored
a team-high 14 kills with six digs. Taylor Johnson added 11 kills
in the victory while Keri Partridge notched eight.
American is 24-2 all time against the Bison and has won each of
the last 13 meetings between the teams. In last season's
match up, the Eagles won in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-20
and 25-21.
