Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision at Richmond

Box Score

The American University women's soccer team played the sixth of seven straight matches away from Reeves Field on Friday night, coming up on the short end of a 1-0 decision at Richmond.

The difference in the match was a goal by Leigh Anne Baxter on a free kick from outside the goal box for Richmond (2-4-1) in the 60th minute of play.

American (0-7) was only able to manage four shots in the match, including one on goal by Michelle Montilio. Patricia Bailey, Friederike Engel and Allison Slattery were also credited with shots for the Eagles.

AU goalkeeper Arianna Efstathiou recorded eight saves between the pipes, allowing the lone score to Baxter.

"We played very consistently for 90 minutes tonight," Head Coach Dave Bucciero said. "Richmond was a very athletic team and they made a great play to score the goal. We had some chances to tie the game at the end but unfortunately we were not able to even it up. As difficult as it is to lose, I was proud of our effort tonight."

The Eagles will conclude their seven-match stretch away from home when they visit local-rival George Washington on Tuesday, September 14. First kick is set for 4 p.m.
