Box Score The American University women's soccer team travelled to
Providence College on Sunday afternoon, where the Eagles came up on
the short end of a 1-0 decision.
The difference in the match was a 65th minute goal from
Providence's Jill Camburn, who beat American goalkeeper Lindsey Farthing to her left. Tota
Olafsdottir was credited with the assist for the Friars, which move
to 3-0 on the season.
American (0-4) found few offensive opportunities in the match,
netting only three shots. Sophomore Samantha Trotta had two of AU's
strikes, including one shot on goal.
Farthing and junior Arianna Efstathiou combined to make
six saves between the pipes for the Eagles.
“I thought we defended very well in the first half and
played a solid first half,” commented Head Coach Dave Bucciero. “The second half
was not strong as it needed to be and that was disappointing. We
are struggling to create enough to create shots offensively, which
hurt us today. We need to do a better job of possessing the ball,
and we're going to work on that this week.”
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, September 4 when
they face Fairfield at 2:30 p.m. The match will be played at
Georgetown's North Kehoe Field.
