Box Score The American University volleyball team hit a season-high .462 Friday night en route to a 3-0 victory at Navy. Magdalena Tekiel, Cassandra Ricketts and Angelina Waterman each recorded double-digit kills while the defense combined for 11 blocks. The Eagles victory came by set scores of 25-9, 25-20, 25-12.
American (23-2, 10-0) combined for 49 kills on 91 attempts with only seven errors, finishing the night with a season-high .462 hitting percentage. This marks the fourth time this season the Eagles had combined to hit .400 or better and the ninth time they have hit .350 or better.
The attack was led by the trio of Ricketts, Tekiel and Waterman. Ricketts scored a match-high 14 kills with a .722 hitting percentage, converting on 18 attempts with just one error. Ricketts and Waterman each scored 13 kills, and finished with hitting percentages of .522 and .345, respectively.
Waterman also notched 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. She was complimented by Deborah Frantz who tallied 11 digs. American combined for 11 blocks on the evening with Bianca Richardson turning in a career-high seven block assists. Ricketts added five block assists as Waterman recorded one solo block and four block assists.
The win was American's 17 straight, improving the team to 23-2 overall, 10-0 in the Patriot League. The Eagles have not lost a set since September 25 and remain on pace with the 2001 squad which began the year 26-2 en route to a 26-4 overall record and the program's first Patriot League Championship.
American will return to action next weekend with a pair of road matches. The Eagles will first take the court on Friday, November 5, at Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m. before facing Army on Saturday, November 6, at 7:00 p.m.
