Box Score The American University volleyball team will hit the road for
the first time this month when it faces UMBC on Wednesday, October
20, at 7:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
American (19-2, 7-0) has won 13 straight matches and extended
its home winning streak to 15 matches with a pair of straight set
victories over Lafayette and Lehigh last weekend. American's .905
win percentage ranks seventh in the NCAA while its .290 hitting
percentage is good for sixth in the country. American also ranks
fourth in the NCAA in aces per set (2.03) and is 26th in kills per
set (14.05).
The Eagles are led by four-time Patriot League Player of the
Week Magdalena
Tekiel, who holds conference-highs in hitting
percentage (.366), kills (3.80 kps) and aces (0.45). Classmate
Angelina
Waterman has also had a stellar season so far,
averaging 3.62 kps and 2.608 dps. Senior Deborah
Frantz has a team-high 3.75 dps while Katerina Cinkova's 1.00 bps are
good for second in the conference. Setter Alexandra
Hammer leads the Eagles with 10.25 aps and Krysta Cicala has added 9.46 aps.
UMBC (8-12, 4-2) enters play riding a three-match win streak.
The Retrievers are led by Sabrina Hoeks and Ali Goc, who average
2.96 and 2.49 kps, respectively. Hallie Cater has notched 3.74 dps
to lead UMBC's defensive charge while Iman Kennedy adds 1.03
bps. Alexandria Spaay leads the team with 9.68 aps. American is
17-3 all-time against UMBC including a 3-0 victory in 2005 when the
teams last met.
