Volleyball Concludes Homestand With Lafayette and Lehigh

The American University volleyball squad will hope to maintain its perfect home record in a pair of weekend matches against Lafayette and Lehigh. The Eagles will take on the Leopards on Friday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. before facing the Mountain Hawks at 2:00 p.m. the following day, Saturday, October 16.

American (17-2, 5-0) has won 11 straight matches, including three home victories against Patriot League opponents since October 1. The Eagles have won all eight matches they have played in the friendly confines of Bender Arena, with each win coming in straight sets. American's .895 win percentage ranks tenth in the NCAA while its 13.66 kps are good enough for 20th in the nation. The Eagles lead the Patriot League in kills, hitting percentage (.283), opponent hitting percentage (.139), assists (12.48 aps), blocks (2.28 bps) and service aces (1.90 sas).

The Eagles are led by four-time Patriot League Player of the Week Magdalena Tekiel. The senior from Poland holds conference-highs in both hitting percentage (.355) and kills (3.80 kps) while ranking nationally with 4.64 points per set (33rd in NCAA Division-I) and 0.45 aces per set (24th in NCAA Division-I). Classmate Angelina Waterman has also had a stellar season so far, averaging 3.70 kps and 2.58 dps. Senior Deborah Frantz has a team-high 3.61 dps while setter Alexandra Hammer leads the Eagles with 10.35 aps.

Lafayette (4-15, 0-5) has won just one match in its last 13 outings after completing a three-match winning streak in September. The Leopards are led by senior Kayly Elmer, who ranks fifth in the Patriot League with 3.16 kps and second on the team with 2.22 dps. Freshman Karissa Ciliento stands atop the Patriot League with 0.48 sas, while Mackenzie Larsen's 3.66 dps rank fourth in the conference.

The Mountain Hawks (8-9, 2-3) are coming off a 3-1 victory at Lafayette last Thursday, their seventh victory away from home this season. Junior Angelika Kopacz leads Lehigh with 3.07 kps while also averaging 3.30 dps. Freshman Rachel Charles has also put up productive numbers, leading the Patriot League in digs with 4.25 per set while ranking fourth in the conference with 0.38 sas. Texas native Taylor Poole holds the second highest hitting percentage in the league, behind Tekiel, at .279.

American is a combined 34-3 all-time against this weekend's opponents. The Eagles' are 17-1 against the Leopards, with their lone loss occurring in 1987. American is 17-2 overall when taking on Lehigh, despite losing in four sets to the Mountain Hawks last season.
