Box Score
Three Eagles recorded double-digit kills but it was not enough
as the American University volleyball team lost at Lehigh Saturday
afternoon, 3-1, by set scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-22. Magdalena
Tekiel, Cassandra
Ricketts and Angelina
Waterman scored 15 kills, 14 kills and 13 kills,
respectively.
The lead changed hands five times in both the first and second
sets but Lehigh (9-7, 2-0) proved to have the answer on both
occasions and pulled away from American (6-8, 1-1) down the
stretch. In the first set the score was knotted at 15 before a 3-0
Lehigh run moved the score to 23-18 en route to set point, 25-20.
The score was tied at 16 in the second but a 4-0 run by the
Mountain Hawks pushed them over the edge to take the set, 25-22.
American recorded a win in the third set as the team found its
rhythm early to spring out to a 7-1 advantage. Lehigh battled back
to bring the score to within one, 15-14, but the Eagles were able
to regain a five point margin following an Ann
Recht kill, 22-17. Two errors forced by the American
defense gave the team the set, 25-18.
The Eagles held an 11-6 lead early in the third set but the
Mountain Hawks quickly found an answer to American's attack and
overtook the lead, 13-12. The team's traded points back-and-forth
until Lehigh finally gained hold of the momentum and took the lead
for good, 21-20, as they earned match point, 25-22.
Tekiel's 15 kills were a match-high and the junior added two
aces, three digs and one block assist to her stat line. Ricketts
tallied 14 kills with nine digs and one block assist while Waterman
notched 13 kills, two aces and five digs. Rebecca
Heath led the defensive effort with 13 digs and Krysta
