Worden's 51st minute goal was enough to give the
American University men's soccer team a 1-0 road victory at ACC foe
Virginia Tech on Wednesday night. Senior goalkeeper Ryan
Leonard recorded his first-career shutout in the win.
After a scoreless opening half, American (3-3) got on the
scoreboard with Worden's first goal of the season. Junior
Daniel
Shannon was credited with the assist as Worden beat
Virginia Tech goalkeeper Brendan Dunn to his right.
Leonard recorded three saves and picked up his first collegiate
shutout and second career victory. His other win came in a 2-1
overtime victory over Pennsylvania on October 18, 2006.
Virginia Tech (2-3-2) outshot the Eagles 14-6 in the match,
although American held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. Worden led
the Eagles with a game-high three shots on goal.

West. "Ryan Leonard was outstanding in goal. Mike
Worden and Danny Shannon created a great goal and the team
defending was excellent, especially centerbacks Cooper
Bryant and Dor
Yasur."
The Eagles will open Patriot League play this Saturday,
September 26 at Bucknell. First kick is set for 4 p.m.
