Box Score The American University volleyball team improved its winning
streak to three matches on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory at Loyola
(Md.). Magdalena
Tekiel scored 13 kills and three aces for the Eagles
while Cassandra
Ricketts tallied 10 kills. American's win came by set
scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-19.
American (5-7) was locked in a 14-all tie in the first set with
Loyola (6-10) before a 4-0 run, which included two Tekiel kills,
pushed the Eagles ahead, 18-14. American would score three staright
points shortly after to increase its advantage to six points,
23-17, before taking set point on a Greyhound service error, 25-17.
It was all AU in the second set as the Eagles used a 6-0 run to
sprint to a 6-1 lead on the strength of three Tekiel aces. American
increased its lead to nine points, 18-9, following an Ann
Recht kill and Loyola error midway through the frame.

Waterman moved the score to 21-11 in favor of the
Eagles as the team rolled to set point, 25-14.
The two teams traded points early in the third set and midway
through the frame were locked in a 14-all tie. Two Tekiel kills and
a third scored by Ricketts gave the Eagles a 17-14 advantage though
and would put an end to Loyola's comeback chances. American used a
4-0 run later, which included kills by Ricketts and C. Recht., en
route to match point, 25-19.
Tekiel finished her evening with a match-high 13 kills, three
aces and five digs. Ricketts added 10 kills and five digs while
Waterman and C. Recht notched eight kills and seven kills,
respectively. Krysta
Cicala dished out 37 assists.
American will begin the Patriot League portion of its schedule
beginning this weekend as the team travels to Pennsylvania to face
both Lafayette and Lehigh. The Eagles will first match up with
Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. before wrapping up its
current road swing at Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m.
