The American University men's soccer team travelled to
Charlottesville, Va., to take on the 10th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers
on Tuesday night, and was defeated by a score of 3-0.
Virginia (11-3-2) scored its three goals in a 25-minute span in
the middle part of the match. Jonathan Villanueva scored the first
goal of the match in the 41st minute to give Virginia a 1-0 lead
heading into halftime. Will Bates and Tony Tchani added the
Cavaliers' second and third goals in the 54th and 65th minutes,
respectively, to set the final margin.
American (9-5-2) was outshot 18-8 in the match, including a 13-3
margin in shots on goal. Junior Nick
Kapus led the Eagles with three shots, two of which
were on goal.

Makowski played all 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles,
and recorded eight saves.
"The difference between the teams tonight was that Virginia
thought they would win and we weren't sure," remarked American
University Head Coach Todd West.
"When we step on the field to prove that we are the better team, we
can play with anyone in the country. Now we will focus on the
Patriot League."
The Eagles will return home to play their final regular season
game of the season on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m. versus
