The American University volleyball team recorded a .326 hitting
percentage Friday evening as it rolled to a victory at Navy, 3-0.

Heath scored a match-high 11 kills as the Eagles won
by set scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-23.
American (9-9, 3-2) got on Navy (5-14, 1-4) early in the first
set using a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 lead. The Midshipmen hung around
midway through the frame, bringing the score to 14-10, but the
Eagles were able to extend their advantage to 17-10 following a Magdalena
Tekiel kill and Navy error. American would later earn
set point, 25-16, on Navy's sixth error of the frame.
The Eagles again used a 6-0 run to open a big lead in the second
set, 12-4, which included two kills by Heath. American pushed its
advantage to as many as 12 points, 17-5, and never let Navy get
back into the action as the team took the set by a final margin of
25-10.
The third set was more tightly contested as the two teams found
themselves tied on eight occasions. Despite holding an 11-5
advantage early, American allowed Navy to work back to an 18-all
tie. The Eagles never relinquished the lead though, and after
trading points down the stretch with the Mids took match point,
25-23, following consecutive kills by Cassandra
Ricketts and Katerina
Cinkova.
American finished the match with a .326 hitting percentage as
Heath led all scorers with 11 kills. Tekiel added nine kills while
Ann
Recht and Claire
Recht each totaled six. Krysta Cicala notched 29
assists.
The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, October 13, as
they host William & Mary in Bender Arena at 7 p.m. The match
