Saturday night in Annapolis, Md. Cameron
Petty scored the lone goal of the match for the Eagles
to move their record to a perfect 4-0 in Patriot League play.
American has outscored its opponents 10-2 in its four conference
matches.
Playing through a heavy downpour and cold temperatures, Petty
took advantage of one of the match's few scoring opportunities with
his 17th minute unassisted goal for American (8-3-1, 4-0). The
senior's first goal of the season slipped past Navy goalkeeper
Tyler Bristol and proved to be the difference in the match.
In the match, there were only six total shots on goal recorded,
three for each squad. Navy (8-6, 2-2) held a 9-7 advantage in
shots. Petty and Jack
Scott each had a team-high two shots for the Eagles.
Goalkeeper Matt
Makowski picked up the shutout for AU, his third of
the season. He recorded three saves in the victory.
With the win, the Eagles are now 6-0-1 in their last seven
matches, including the four consecutive victories to open up
Patriot League play. The last time American began 4-0 in the
Patriot League was in the 2004 season.
The Eagles will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 24 with
a 3 p.m. kick versus Lehigh. This match will be the date for the
annual "Phil Reeves" game, which includes a free tailgate for AU
students, and Alumni Weekend. Additionally, AU's nine seniors will
be honored prior to the match during Senior Day festivities.
